The KnessetLens site ("the site") presents information on votes and on committee discussions in the Knesset, on the parties and candidates on the lists for the 26th Knesset, and on bills. The site is operated by Dave Ben Dor and Adam Simonov ("we").
This document explains what information the site collects, what it is used for, who else receives it and what your rights are. It was written in accordance with the Protection of Privacy Law, 5741-1981 ("the Law"), including Amendment 13 to the Law, which came into force on 14 August 2025, and with the regulations made under it. This document is part of the Terms of use.
In brief
- You can read all the content on the site without signing up and without providing any details.
- Anyone who wants to save their questionnaire answers opens an account, with Google or with an email address and a password.
- The questionnaire answers and the background details you chose to provide (age range, gender and field of work) are stored encrypted. They are not shown to anyone but you, and we do not compute aggregate data about users from them.
- The site uses Google Analytics to measure visits, and Meta Pixel (from Facebook and Instagram) to measure our advertising on social networks. Both set cookies. The questionnaire answers, the result and the background details are never sent to them.
- We do not sell information, and we do not pass information about users to parties, candidates or campaigns.
- You can delete the account at any time, and with it the answers and the background details.

What information is collected and how
Browsing the site
To show you the site, our hosting providers receive the requests from your browser. With each request they process the IP address, the browser type, the time of the request and the address of the page you requested, and they keep technical logs of this for operations and security purposes in accordance with their own policies.
Under the Law, an IP address may be considered personal data, so we treat it as such. The site's own code does not record visitors' IP addresses, and we do not try to identify visitors on the basis of the logs.
Searching the site
What you type into the search is sent to our server as part of the page address, so that results can be returned. Search responses are kept in the cache of the content delivery network for up to one day, to make the site faster. The cache stores the search terms and the results, not details that identify you. The site's code does not record searches, but the page address, which contains the search terms, may appear in the hosting provider's technical logs.
User account
You can open an account in two ways:
- With Google. Google passes us your Google identifier, your verified email address and your name. We do not receive a picture, contacts or any other information from Google.
- With an email address and a password. We store the address and the name, if you chose to provide it. The password is not stored. We store only a hash value of it, computed with argon2id, from which the password cannot be recovered.
For each account we also store the time of sign-up and the time the email address was verified. We do not store an IP address, the browser type or the time of the last visit.
The questionnaire and background details
The questionnaire has 30 questions, and in each one you choose one of two statements. From the answers, the site calculates your position on the three axes on which it measures the parties, and shows the distance between you and the lists.
- The answers are stored in your account encrypted (AES-256-GCM). The encryption key is kept only in the server environment, not in the database.
- If you answered the questionnaire without being logged in, the answers are stored only in your browser, in a cookie that is valid for one day (see "Cookies"). They are sent to the server only to calculate the result, and are not stored by us. You can delete them from the browser immediately with the "Delete answers from browser" button on the result page.
- If you registered with an email address and a password after answering the questionnaire, the answers are also sent to the server when you register and when you ask for the link to be sent again, and are attached, encrypted, to the confirmation link that is emailed to you. This way they are saved in your account even if you open the link in another browser or on another device. We do not store them until the address is confirmed, and after that they are saved in the account like any other answer.
- Only the latest version of the answers is stored. Filling in the questionnaire again replaces it.
- The result is recalculated each time you view it, and is not stored.
- The result is shown only to you, on your personal page, unless you choose to share it (see "Sharing the result" below). We do not publish it on our own initiative, and we do not compute aggregate data about users from it.
When signing up, you can also provide background details: age range, gender and field of work. These details are optional, and you can skip them. They are stored encrypted in the same way, and are meant to help us improve the content on the site.
The questionnaire answers may reflect political opinions, so we treat them as information of special sensitivity.
Sharing the result
You can share the result as a link or as an image. Sharing happens only when you choose it.
- What is shared is only your position on the three axes: no name, no email address, not the answers themselves, and not the lists or candidates closest to you.
- The link contains an encrypted identifier. Someone who receives it cannot tell from it who you are, but anyone who has the link can open it. If you share it on a social network, it is visible to everyone who sees the post.
- With an account: the link stops working when you fill in the questionnaire again or delete the account. This takes effect within a few minutes.
- Without an account: the link is valid for 30 days, and we store nothing. The result is encrypted inside the link itself.
- Social networks and messaging apps sometimes keep a copy of a link's preview image. We cannot delete these copies, even after the link has stopped working. An image that you downloaded and shared yourself stays with you and with whoever received it.
Statistics and advertising measurement
Two third-party tools run on the site, and their code is loaded in your browser:
- Google Analytics, to know how many visitors the site has and which pages they view. When you have shared a result, it records that a share took place and by which method, but not the result itself.
- Meta Pixel, to measure the effectiveness of our advertising on Facebook and Instagram. For every page you view, the page address, the IP address and browser data are sent to Meta. When a new account saves questionnaire answers for the first time, a "Registration completed" event is also sent to Meta, without the answers, without the result and without the email address. Meta may link the information to your account with Meta, if you have one, and use it in accordance with its own privacy policy.
Both tools receive only page addresses and browsing data. They do not receive the questionnaire answers, the result, the background details or what is typed into forms. Neither tool runs on share-link pages or on pages opened from links in emails, because the addresses of those pages contain a secret identifier.
You can block both tools with a tracker-blocking extension, or delete and block their cookies in your browser settings, and the site will keep working as usual. You can also manage Meta's use of the information for advertising purposes in the ad settings of your Meta account.
Cookies
The site sets its own cookies:
- A login cookie (__Host-kl_session), which is created when you log in and is valid for 30 days. It contains only a random identifier, and we store only a hash value of it. It cannot be read by code on the page. It is deleted when you log out or delete the account.
- A cookie that indicates that you are logged in (kl_signed_in), which is created and deleted together with the login cookie. It contains only the value 1, and is used only to show the link to your account page at the top of the page. It can be read by code on the page, and it cannot be used to log in.
- A temporary cookie for logging in with Google (__Host-kl_oauth), which is valid for 10 minutes and is used only to complete the login securely.
- A temporary answers cookie (kl_answers), which is created when you answer the questionnaire without being logged in, and also when you confirm, in another browser, a registration that was made after answering the questionnaire. It keeps the answers in your browser only, so that we can show you the result. It cannot be read by code on the page. It is valid for one day, and is deleted when the answers are saved to an account or when you delete them on the result page.
- A temporary cookie (kl_conversion), which is created when a new account saves questionnaire answers for the first time. It contains only the value 1, and is used to report the completed registration to Meta once. It is deleted immediately afterwards, and after one day at the latest.
In addition, the tools described in "Statistics and advertising measurement" set their own cookies: Google Analytics (for example _ga), to recognize returning visits, and Meta Pixel (for example _fbp), to link visits to the site with advertising on Meta's networks.
For account matters we send only these emails: address verification (the link is valid for 24 hours), password reset (the link is valid for one hour and can be used once), a notice that an account with that address already exists, and one welcome email when the account is ready (after the address is verified or at the first login with Google). We store the links only as a hash value. Emails about the mailing list and about inquiries sent to us are described in the following sections.
When a new account is opened, when a subscription to the mailing list is confirmed or when an inquiry is sent to us, an internal message is also sent to the site operator's mailbox. For a new account it includes the email address and the sign-up method (password or Google), for a list subscription the email address, and for an inquiry what you wrote (see "Contacting us").
Mailing list
If you subscribed to updates, we store the email address, the time of subscription, the page you subscribed from and the time the subscription was confirmed. To confirm the subscription, we send you a link by email. At present we do not send messages to the list. We will use the address only to send you updates from the site, and only after you confirm the subscription. You can ask at any time for the address to be removed by contacting us. After removal no updates will be sent to you, but we will keep the record and the time of removal as documentation that you withdrew your consent. If you ask, we will delete that too. The list subscription is separate from the account, so deleting the account does not remove the address from the list.
Protection against abuse
The Cloudflare Turnstile service runs on the forms for signing up, logging in, resetting the password, resending the verification link, subscribing to the mailing list and contacting us, and checks that the form was submitted by a person. For this, your browser loads Cloudflare code, and the site's server passes your IP address to Cloudflare together with the result of the check. Cloudflare's use of the information is subject to its privacy policy.
Links to other sites
The site contains links to other sites, for example to the Knesset website and to its transcript documents. Those sites operate under their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them.
A link to a post or to an account on X leads to X, which processes information about you there under its own policy. On the posts pages the site does not load code, images or videos from X: the posts are shown as text and as a link.
Contacting us
If you write to us through the contact form, we receive the name, the email address and the content of the message. The inquiry is not stored in the site's database: it is sent by email to the site operator's mailbox, and you are sent an acknowledgment of receipt that does not include what you wrote. If you write to us directly by email, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to provide in the message. We will use the details only to handle the inquiry, and we will keep them for as long as this is needed to handle it and to keep a record of the reply.
Why we use the information
- To show you the site and return search results.
- To manage your account, store the questionnaire answers and show you the result.
- To send you emails about your account, and updates if you subscribed to them.
- To improve the content on the site, based on the background details you chose to provide.
- To measure use of the site and the effectiveness of our advertising on social networks.
- To keep the site secure and prevent its abuse.
- To answer your inquiries.
We do not sell or rent out information, we do not show advertisements on the site, and we do not pass information about users to parties, candidates or campaigns.
Information about Members of Knesset, candidates and public figures
The site presents information about Members of Knesset, candidates and lists: votes, participation in committee discussions, scores calculated from them, photos and descriptions of parties. The information is taken from public sources, such as Knesset records, party websites, media outlets and publications of the Central Elections Committee. The site does not show what was said in the discussions. It shows data about the discussions and links to the Knesset's official transcripts.
Some of the content was created with the help of artificial intelligence tools, as detailed in the Terms of use. Such content may contain errors.
The site also presents posts that party members published on their public accounts on X: the author's name, the date, the text as published and a link to the original post. We show only accounts that we matched to a party member by name, and we do not add to a post any other information about its author. A post that was deleted or edited on X after it was collected may appear on the site in its earlier wording. Anyone who wants a post of theirs removed can contact us under section 11 of the Terms of use.
Anyone who appears on the site and wants to correct information or ask for its removal can contact us as set out in the section "Your rights".

We may replace providers or add similar providers. If a provider that receives information about users is added, we will update the table.
We pass information to a public authority only if the law requires it, for example under a court order.
Transfer of information outside Israel
The providers in the table are foreign companies, and their servers are located outside Israel. The site's server runs in Europe (Frankfurt). Therefore the information described in this document is processed and stored outside Israel. We rely on the providers' security and privacy commitments.
How long information is kept
- Account details, the questionnaire answers and the background details are kept until you delete the account.
- A link for sharing the result works until you delete the account or fill in the questionnaire again, and without an account, for 30 days. We do not store the link itself.
- The login cookie is valid for 30 days, and expires even if you have not logged out.
- The answers cookie of someone who is not logged in is valid for one day.
- The Google Analytics and Meta Pixel cookies are kept in the browser according to those providers' settings, until you delete them. The information sent to them is kept according to their retention policies.
- Verification and reset links sent by email are valid for 24 hours and one hour, respectively.
- A mailing list record is kept until you ask for it to be deleted, even after removal from the list, as documentation of the withdrawal of consent.
- Technical logs are kept by the hosting providers according to their retention policies.
- Search responses are kept in the cache for up to one day.
- Inquiries sent to us are kept for as long as this is needed to handle them.
Information security
The connection to the site is encrypted (HTTPS). The questionnaire answers and the background details are encrypted in the database, and the encryption key is stored separately from it. Passwords, login identifiers and the account links sent by email are stored only as hash values. We take reasonable measures to secure the site and the systems behind it, in accordance with the Protection of Privacy Regulations (Data Security), 5777-2017, to the extent that they apply to us.
No security is absolute, and we cannot guarantee that the site is immune to intrusion. If a severe security incident occurs that the law requires us to report, we will report it to the Privacy Protection Authority and act according to its instructions.
Your rights
Under the Law, you are entitled:
- to inspect the information about you that is held in a database of ours (section 13 of the Law). You can see the questionnaire answers and the background details on your personal page.
- to request that information about you that is incorrect, incomplete, unclear or out of date be corrected or deleted (section 14 of the Law). You can update the questionnaire answers yourself at any time.
- to delete the account. The account is deleted from your personal page, and deletion permanently erases the account details, the questionnaire answers, the background details and the active sessions.
For other requests, write to us by email at knessetlens@gmail.com, and state what you are requesting. If necessary, we will ask for details to verify your identity. We will respond within 30 days.
If we cannot comply with a request, we will explain why. Information that comes from public databases, such as the Knesset's voting records, reflects the source. We will correct it on our side if we find that an error occurred in copying or processing.
If you believe that we have infringed your privacy, you can also contact the Privacy Protection Authority at the Ministry of Justice.
Children
The site is not intended for children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data about them. If you learn that a child has opened an account or given us details, write to us and we will delete them.
Changes to this policy
We will update this document when the site or the law changes. The current version will appear on this page. We will also publish material changes on the site.
