Haim Biton, a former director general of the Shas party, has been a Member of Knesset for the party since 2021. He served as a minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Education from December 2022 until July 2025, when he resigned following the crisis over the yeshiva draft law. In March 2025 a criminal investigation was opened against him on suspicion of using Ministry of Education funds to finance the party's newspaper "HaDerech", and he was questioned under caution a second time in July 2026; the investigation has not yet ended.
