About the party

Shas: a list for the 26th Knesset with 119 candidates. The scores rest on the record of 15 of the candidates in previous Knessets. Plenum votes on bills are included up to 28 July 2026, and committee discussions up to 24 March 2026.

Shas, whose official name is the Association of Sephardic Torah Guardians, the movement of Our Master Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory, is a Sephardic Haredi party founded in 1984 ahead of the election for the 11th Knesset. Upon its founding, the Council of Torah Sages was established, headed by Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, who was its spiritual leader until his death in 2013. In the 1984 election it received 4 seats, in 1999 it received 17, in 2015 it received 7 and in 2022 it received 11. In July 2025 it left the government amid the dispute over the draft law, but not the coalition. According to the party, it advocates "restoring the crown to its former glory" and promoting social justice. The list for the 26th Knesset was determined by the Council of Torah Sages, and it is headed by the chair of the movement, Aryeh Deri, followed by the chair of the faction, Yinon Azulai, Michael Malchieli, who served as minister of religious services, and Yoav Ben-Tzur.
